Blue Borage Hex

Here is one of the projects from the book " Elizabethan Needlework Accessories" by Sheila Marshall. It the Pin Cushion that is made from eight hexagons. Each of the six sides is embroidered with a flower with an outline in gold. I am finished with two of the sides and started on the Strawberry sections.

Pansy Hex

Most of the stitches used in this are basic embroidery stitches, couching, satin making up the bulk of the design. Along with some beads on each one they move along really fast. I should have the sides finished early next week and hope to get some good up close pics when the sun is out!

I finally finished putting on the last few beads and pailettes. She is all done and ready to be sewn into the needle book. I was debating sewing it together by hand but I think the quickness of the sewing machine is going to win out. I let my husband use a water soluble pen and do the writing on it for me. I was just too lazy to print off and transfer something and anyone who has seen my hand writing knows why I didn't do the writing myself!

Yes, I am enjoying this butterfly so much I am going a little crazy! I am at an impasse with the flowers on the wings and a good filling stitch for this new area of the wing I just outlined..... I'm not sure I want these flowers to be yellow???? And not really sure about what stitch to fill in this section on the wing (outlined in stem stitch with a Silk n' Colors) What do you guys think????

Embroidered Butterfly Update

I don't think I mentioned why I was making this! I need a large multi-page needle book since we are going to be moving soon and some of my things will need to remain in boxes for a while so I need one large enough to hold every type of needle I own! (It's alot!) So this will end up being about 4 x 6 x 1 when finished and have about ten pages for my needles. The Butterfly is about a quarter of the way finished and I am looking forward to the finishing but I am moving on to Happy ever after for the final page up the right hand side first. I haven't embroidered in awhile and I am wearing a hole through my finger from non practice!

Progress was slowed due to a few other small projects I was working on but yesterday thanks to a blizzard I did manage to get about half of the second page done!

And since not everywhere gets snow I thought I would show you what 18 inch of snow looks like!

since it was a windy snow not much stuck to the roofs but if you look close most of the car bumpers are touching the snow on the road

Paisley Owl Finished

I finished this little guy last night, his name is Paisley for obvious reasons. I used HDF Silks, Kreinik, Mill Hill Beads, and is stitched on 28ct Linen. He is stuffed with rice in his "wings" polyfil and then weighted down with rice in the bottom. He sits about 3 1/2 " high and about 3" wide.

I just have some tweaking to do!

I stitched her on 32 ct Vintage French Lilac, And used HDF Silks, Petite Silk Lame' and of course Kreinik and Mill Hill beads. She was a blast to stitch! As you see I couldn't put her down, only two days of work.....Now what to make her into?????

For those of you who enjoy Owls as much as I do! ODD-ESSA is a very hip girl with a real eye for color! LOL Well we'll see anyway since I am still stitching her! Her is the border so far and I hope to have that done tonight and get started on the real treat!

I'm stitching this one with HDF silks. I really enjoy working with these silks they are super soft and reasonably priced! I am also stitching with just one strand to help my supplies go a little further!

I started my HAED with just one thread and I am really enjoying the out come and think it will be my new favorite thing to do!

And as an after thought here is my oldest son this year in football, we finally got the CD of the pictures!

I'll show you the point in just a few lines but first let me say I am totally in love with this design! I have only part of the first and smallest page done but yet there is a face. I cute little upturned face...and on that face is a tear! A tear I didn't even see until I stitched it! how cool is that! I love surprises and this is a good one.

This design is called "Happy Ever After" and is not the biggest HAED I have but it might have the most boring selection of colors....All Flesh tones, coppers, browns...it's neutral city in here! BUT every once in a while there is a flower floating down for a little color.....

A happy little purple flower down in the corner was a nice find also! I can't wait to see how his eye area comes out....will post an update tomorrow....I should have the page done by then!

So here is a teaser pic of an upcoming design I am working on. This so far this is the inner border and my hubby picked out the colors! LOL I think he has pretty good taste! I would not have put black and yellow together on natural but I am really enjoying the outcome.

So this design goes through the months and will be quite sparkly when finished. Do you guys think it needs and outer border?????

Christmas Heart SAL - Free to Blog Followers!

I am beginning my first SAL for my followers today. It will be a short and sweet SAL that will be completed before Christmas! Perfect for a small tree or scissor fob. Yes, it is kind of a mystery SAL!

I will have the first section in PDF listed to download from this post, you will have to stitch part one to receive part two. Simply email me a picture or blog link to the post of your pic and I will email you the second part and the finishing instructions a few days later.

A few rules....

1. You must be a follower of my blog.
2. You must stitch part one to receive part two.
3. You may post about this SAL anywhere you would like but please only link to the post and
not the PDF as all of the info it not in the PDF.
4. Have fun with changing the colors!

Directions for stitching:

These may seem complicated but they are quite simple to follow.

Download the pattern
You will need to small pieces of fabric in TWO DIFFERENT colors that go well together. Each piece needs to be about 6 in square to complete the design.

After picking the fabrics you can decide if you are matching the fabrics or contrasting your threads to your fabric.

You will need one thread to match each fabric but it's better to go a shade or two darker or lighter so it shows up well.

Next you will choose two specialty threads (Marlett, Satin floss, Kreinik) two match closely to your threads.

And lastly you will need a bead to match one of your threads.

For example: This is what I chose

Red and Green fabric 28 count (both must be the same count)
Red and green silks
Red and green Kreinik
Dk green beads

It would be very wise to write down on the key your choices so you don't get lost between part one and two. Any questions? If you have one please post it in the comments as others may run across the same questions and I can post my reply there and hopefully save some time for everyone.

I joined in an awesome SAL called the WIPocalpse 2012...Basically you update every full moon with the progress made on your WIP over the previous month. Simple right....Until I saw how many things on my list were huge...factor in the extra hours at work instead of stitching and yeah...this will be challenging! A La Belle Etoile Finished!

It took me about 3 weeks total to finish this up but today I just wanted it done and out of my hair and I must say I adore it! So Here it is....

Worked over one on 32ct linen ( sorry I don't know the dyer) with HDF silks, I finished up a plain ol' brown paper box with some scrap paper and trim, ribbons of course and a few tiny buttons. Everything I used I had on hand except the box...which was Suppose to be a gift for a teacher at school but ...she ain't gettin it, cuz I fell in love with it! LOL

New Start and my Hand Dyed Fabric!

Ok so mom talked me into doing this nexrt huge thing with her and so I had to find a good huge piece of fabric which I DO NOT have so I dyed up some 32 count with some teal dye I had on hand and then after TWO hours of playing in the silks and DMC and Anchor we finally came across something for everything listed since the fibers called for are WAY out of my price range for this coming year!

So we have a little peacock and it took me forever to find the perfect place for him to sit on the tree but I think we did it! Here is our tree for this year!

AND of course since I was off work today I finished my Savannah's Curtsy into a different kind of stand up (I LOVE IT!) It took forever to put it together but I think it was worth the three hours of pinning and un-pinning and trip to walmart for different pins and them more pinning!

Let It Snow!

I had most of this on hand except the bells and ribbon on the outside, I really lucked out finding those at Micheals (took two seperate one's to find them in the right size!)

I finished mom's freebie for this Christmas and I chose a little different color palette for mine....

Here is what I have finished on the Thread Basket SAL for Part two and restitching part one as I go, I had to frog the entire house due to a mishap in measuring the fabric....no big deal since stitching over one is twice as fast for me!

It seams my last post was cut short a little ..I was having problems with blogger at the time and was just happy most of what I was saying made it to the web.

Next to the stretcher is going to be another small for a fabric box for one of my sons teachers....Not sure what to stitch but I have a pattern for a fun stocking ornament that might work. I'm not sure what to stitch since I don't know what she celebrates for the holidays!

Savannah's Curtsy! Finished...Finally

So only two weeks passed the amount of time I wanted to take to stitch this pattern but oh well...She is done and I can't wait to see what I end up with after I finish it into a welcome sign.....

Interestingly enough I was always under the impression that she didn't have a face showing in this design...I thought it was more of a "Sunbonnet Sue" looking design...Well, that's what I get for not looking very close because low and behold there are eyelashes down there! She is indeed bowing her head to the right and the part I thought was a bonnet is HAIR! LOL

Next on the menu is a little frogging to do ...well, ok ALOT of frogging to do ...remember a few posts ago I showed the first part to a SAL from The Thread Basket???? Well I don't understand how I managed to not calculate the correct size piece of fabric I needed and so I will be frogging the house and stitch the design over one. I love the fabric so much for this design I simply HAVE to do it on this.

Future stitching plans are always in motion at least for me but there are a few designs I need to finish before begining anything new...One is the SAL listed above and two is Villa Mirabilia. I also have several partial things sitting around that need finishing up as in Ro

So on the way home from the store we almost ran into the back of another car and after I finished yelling I realised why he stopped in the middle of the road as he did.....

I realise it is blurry but at night this is the best my camera will do...One of these days I really should take a class!

and this poor tree is all loaded down with snow from today.....I love to look at the snow but I really don't ever want to drive in it again! (not without my durango!)

Winter is here!

So last night we were suppose to get snow 2-3 inches OVER NIGHT, NOT before I left work so I took the two wheel drive POS truck and almost had to sleep on the side of the road! No worries I got home and it only took me twice as long as usual, and I only got stuck once! (and I really can blame the plows for that since I was puttering along to slow and we have to pull over for them to pass, so into the deep snow I went and it took forever for the truck to slide its way out again!)

This morning I awoke to a beautiful fully snow covered parking lot and so I tholught I had to show pics since this was not a "winter storm warning" storm but the one last week was????? I think our weather guys are smoking something! Anyway, the schools are closed and I'm off work tonight and tomorrow which translates to A WHOLE LOT OF STITCHIN TIME!!!!!! YEAH!!!!! Maybe I can get Savannah done??????

Ok so I was hoping to have savannah done by today however it didn't happen! And I missed it by a long shot! LOL here is her so far.....

And my Halloween costume for work, since we were encouraged to dress up and I do like a challenge I am going to be the Wicked Witch of the West's Cook! Inspired by a panel we got in at me walmart for an apron with the Witch on it I decided to go ahead and make the chef hat purple and then everything else pretty much fell into place. The skirt fabric is for my sons quilt and so I couldn't alter it so I folded it over a belt and over lapped the edges and so theres the skirt! Black shirt, purple chef hat, yarn crochet hair(thanks to Mom's genius idea!)

PS - Fake eyelashes are a pain in the butt! and heels + Walmart = stupid idea! The shoes didn't make it an hour but none of my co workers seemed to mind, and we really didn't have many customers so I ended up in socks most of the night!

Winter storm warning my foot!

This is the results of our winter storm warning over night! We were told we were getting 8 inches! I don't think it is quite adding up to that yet but they are still saying 4-6 today...I'll believe it when I see it! LOL

Either way my boys are staying home from school. A few times in the past the day has started off innocently and ended with me having to pick the boys up in the middle of a blizzard half way through the day. I have learned to err on the side of caution with Colorado weather!

So far the progress on this has been hampered by everything from needing to clean the house, work, and now a winter storm! FIVE hours over the last two day were wasted waiting for tires on two different vehicles to be done. Needless to say I think on this one I am going to miss my time frame for completion.

Savannah's Day Four Update

I really didn't get much done yesterday but today I have a lot of stitching time so I hope to get the ruffles up the right side and then work across the arms and back down the other ruffle. I had to move her to I different frame since my Q-snap didn't have enough room to use magnets to hold the pattern still. (YES it was driving me nuts) I usually can manage small areas without the pattern in front of me but not on a full sized mira!

Anyway on to the eye candy!

Do you ever look at a picture the designers have posted and even though you see the design it still suprises you as you stitch it? Well, when I pulled the threads for this project they seemed very boring...mostly grays and browns with a few blues and greens..... I have full faith in Nora and her ability with color, so I am not worried at all that this design won't be every bit as beautiful as I think it will and even more so than the photo of it shows!

I am beginning to realise there are quite a few designs I want stitched for myself! So I am starting with one that I love but have not seen many people stitch..actually I haven't ever seen this one completed.
This is day one for Savanah's Curtsy.....

I usually have a large enough piece of fabric to begin in the bottom right hand corner and work up but this piece is exactly perfect in size and so to keep myself from getting to the top and finding out that I am out of room and should have started ten stitches south of where I did, I started in the middle and worked my way down to the bottom right hand corner.

Call me crazy but I want to have her finished by Halloween! ..That's about 16 days!

This coming wweek the boys are home from school and I have a very light work schedule....So yes it is possible!

If anyone has any ideas please let me know but there is a ton of kreinik in this and I want to sub in something else. the colors are 013 beige and 021 copper. I am debating using marlett or something similar.......

Ok so I have been a little lazy at updating this blog so there is alot to show you guys!

First I have been stitching on two of my WIPs lately the SAL Rosettes Delight and a few stitches in Chatelaine's Indian Summer.....

I have been working on a crochet afghan for my daughter for X-mas...Don't tell her!

Also a crocheted afghan using up all the left overs from her blanket!

I also really want a sock blankie of my very own and so instead of knitting it like many others I have seen I found a really easy crocheted hex that works great out of sock yarn!

Mom and I are trading off crocheted blocks done out of sport weight yarn for a throw ....she makes two of each and send me one and I make two and send her one...mine are falling behind since I have been trying to catch up on the SAL and finish a few misc projects....Here are her two blocks and I have one done but it was too hard to find and so I will post it's pic next time!

And finally I am working on a crocheted poncho for this fall and hope to have it done soon!

In the near future I have quite a bit of stitching to get done....I have one more SAL I want to do and Four boys who need quilts this year......not to mention the few pojects that are started but not far enough alog to add to the updates...one more afghan and an owl for wyatt....a "gir" for morgan .......

OH and for those who would like to watch I am going to upload the very first play from my sons first Middle school football gave! He caught the kick off and returned for a good amount of yards!

So a few weeks ago I made a green bracelet to wear to my daughters graduation and completely forgot to take it with me so I thought I would at least show you some pics of it!

I made it green because Daniels football teams colors are green and black! Dual purpose in my house is a must! I did not have the clasp they were asking for in the pattern so I added a button and loop type clasp and it still needs tweaked so the loop stays open after it's on but I am still going to post you pics of it now since what I really want to show you is making me not in the mood for fixing previous works at the moment!

Since this bracelet was to wear to the graduation and was so sadly forgotten at home Mom and I went shopping and as you can see I'm in a green kinda mood!

Below is me and my daughter Peyton the night of her Graduation! Also thrown in there too is pics of Mom (HEHEHEHE) and Dad also with Peyton!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST! I LOVE THIS PATTERN! I decided to make something for peyton for her birthday this year and came across this at the library in an older Beadwork Magazine- Dec/Jan 2011 - Called Gothic Butterfly Bracelet by Mikki Ferrugiaro!

Below are pics of the "wing" which there will be two of and centered will be a rivoli in a bezel......I am having a ton of fun seeing how the wings are pleating and how it will all go together at the end!

Umbrella sky is coming along a very little at a time! BUT, it is so pretty and easy to work on that I wanted you to see the full amount finished. I worked over from the right side to the left and so now I am going to work up and see exactly how big she will turn out on this fabric since it turned out to not be wide enough.

I know its been awhile since I posted anything so I thought I would add and update with a couple pics of what I am doing now.....

First a long over due look at umbrella sky...I have coompleted 4 pages on the right hand side and worked my way across the bottom of the project and found out that my fabric is 50 stitches too narrow! Ugh! Oh well. It won't take much away from the design as it will only leave off the very left corner off the umbrella. I hope to have a few oages up the left side done in a few months as I have started another BAP that I fell in love with but before we get to that here is the pic for Umbrella Sky!

Secondly I have begun an over one HAED called "Hold On To Hope" which is mostly blues and yellows so the colors are a nice change from Umbrella Sky!

UGH Finally after two hours of climbing and a two hour
drive it's over! I am done I climbed to the top took the
pictures and climbed back down!. Yes I did not take
pictures of myself but I did get the boys to hold still for
a minute and got pics of them so here they are at the fire
lookout on top of Devil's Head!

this is Wyatt - he's five and he carried sticks all the way
up and halfway back down again until he slipped and
fell and then I umade him put them down for good! He
didn't even fall behind until after he fell!

Dalton who hates pictures and complained more
then I did all the way up!

This is Cauy he did so well, better than I would
have thought -this is the kid who eats everything
and sits and plays video games the whole time!
I couldn't even keep up with him until after he fell
on the way back down!!!!

This is Cody and Wyatt - Dakota kicked my butt -
he basically ran circles around me the whole way.

It was a great trip though the kids loved the view
and all agreed it was worth the hike and the drive
( dirt road, Durango - and a girl afraid to drive on
dirt roads! LOL We went 10 mile and hour for
7 miles!) Here is some of the pictures of the view:

I finally found my camera so here are a few pictures of the Mime's the Word Needlebock: Details are- stitched on Gold Silk Dupioni, with 100/3 silk, Au ver a soie six strand silk, Krienik, HDF ribbon, Finca floss and pearl cotton, and DMC cotton floss. Lining is a burgundy batik and a teal batik for the pockets, and Burgundy Wool felt for the needle pages.

Here is my current picture of the Turtles I am stitching for Mom for Rhonda, Mom will do all the finishing. I am just doing the stitching because it is quite small. The large turtle shell on this fabric is 2" across! Like I said very tiny turtles!

I have been looking now for almost three days! I can't find my camera anywhere!

I can only tell you that I am making progress on the turtles for mom, and Mette is underway ( and looking awesome!) I also started a new project for a wall hanging so I can learn new crewel stitches. I am using the Anchor Crewelwork book - 30 drawn designs and about 50 stitches, so I better learn a lot!

I also finished my Mimes the Word Needle Book today and it came out very well. At least I think it did and as soon as that pesky camera shows up I will get some Photo's on here!

OH AND I won one of Pat Winters giveaways!!!!! Yeah!!!! I won the green and blue one - I adore it and can't wait to see it in person! I will post photo's of that too when the camera surfaces!

I chose to work on another embroidery project that has a few more challenges to it than the last piece. On this one I will have to work a face. A rather small face, As you will see below the face needs to be filled in before the eyes, nose, mouth details are put on.

The back ground on this is a two tone silk, I lucked out a few days ago and a lampshade store downtown listed a brown paper bag of silk scraps for free, OF course I jumped on it!!!! I was so thrilled when I got home and discovered that most of the pieces are large enough to embroider on and still have scraps left for a crazy quilt!

Anyway I am using DMC, Anchor, Finca 6strand, Finca Presencia, A Ver a Soie in six strand, 100/3, Perlee, and a Metallic from them called "Bijoux" that is wonderful to work with! I have also used ribbon from HDF, and some Kreinik size 4 and 16 in silver.

I can't decide! I have four blocks for mom's crazy quilt pieced. BUT the boys are home for summer and I don't have a big enough work space for laying it all out till I get them back in school. SO that is on hold for a few weeks. They go back on August 9th.

Then there is Mette which is a SAL with Marie but we don't start till the first and we are only doing one motif a week so that's not gonna help right now....

Then there is quilts for the boys but we run into the same issue as the crazy quilt for mom...No room till the boys go back to school.

Well I do need a bigger needle book.....I have a wonderful mother who has made me two that stay here by my stitching chair, but one has my beading and cross stitch needles and the other is more of a pocket thing. Not really good for sharp needles......SO do I make a needle book.....Or something else......

HELP!

The one thing I am very sure of is that IF I use a RED it will be a DMC! I don't care if it is cotton and the rest might be silk.....I can trust it to NOT ruin my stitching!

When I began the sweet bag project I took the Red that I was going to use and washed it laid it out to dry on paper towels and got NO halo from it at all. So I figured there would be no issue when I finished the project. Well I washed it, it dried over night, and the strawberry's bled! I am so mad right now! I have washed and wash, soaked and it just keeps getting worse! SO the top half of the design is ruined. I am going to soak it in warm water and see if it helps at all, at this point there is no reason not to try it.

For anyone who is interested I was using HDF (hand-dyed fibers) Silk six strand regular for this project and only the red is being an issue.

There is no picture because my camera won't turn on. I have tried new batteries and it still is not working. Which isn't helping me mood at all!

Well I have just a few more involved sections left and then the tendrils which are supper easy and go really fast. Then I will be all done with the embroidered part of this project!

I managed to get four of the base blocks done for mom's crazy quilt, out of 20 total. I am waiting on a few more things I have in the mail before the embellishing takes place. I am not real sure what I am doing so I may not post pictures of that for awhile! LOL

Neighborhood sale finds!

I don't usually do yard sales but where I live had a big huge sale this weekend. Of course most of them will be out tomorrow but I have too much to do tomorrow to make it so I thought I would hit the early ones and see if I find anything cool.

In a couple of days I am going to be starting a crazy quilt for my mom, she has always wanted one and I was never comfortable enough to make one until now ( I hope) I will be working with yellow and lavender (think cottage style colors) with a few pinks, blues and all cream/white laces.

I lucked out a few days ago, one of the local quilt shops was having a back room rummage sale and I found a ton of yellow and purple scraps and I also hit Joann's clearance section for more formal yellow/purple fabrics and I did find a few.

And today I found some older costume jewelry, and some little girls Sunday dresses that will be salvaged for the trims and embroidered fabrics. I also came across a 100% silk formal gown in a very pretty light green that is suitable for embroidering on! I figure about 2 yards total salvaged out of the green dress and closer to three out of the five little girls dresses. Not bad since the total price tag was under $10 for all of it!

However, I should find a way to leave the five year old at home! He spent more than I did! He managed to get a race track and several cars for it as well as a beanie baby ( don't ask why! I have no clue!) But at least he is playing with it!

Oh and yes that is the FREE rug I found after cleaning and four days drying! Wyatt loves it, He drives and parks his cars on it!

Deal of the Week!

So we live in apartments here and sometimes people throw out completely useful items because of one reason or another. It has been raining here and so I went down to throw out our trash instead of making the boys do it.

In the trash bin kinda just laying there was a braided rug that I recognized right away, this rug is from Target and it was about $85 new. This one was very gently used as you can see in the picture and since we are going Shabby Chic anyway I figured it was worth washing and seeing if it could be salvaged. Those who know me are familiar with my "just paint it" attitude towards furniture. I have almost furnished my house with free furnature off craigslist ( See the Sewing Chair!)

After about 20 min soaking in bleach and laundry soap this is what I got!

Right now it is still drying out hanging in the shower. I will show a better picture when I can lay it out on the floor. Total measurements are 3' x 5' and worth the 20min of washing!

Finally the Leaves are done! AND the Strawberries!

I managed quite a bit of work on this today since it was cold and rainy here I didn't go to the football game. I finished the leaves and the strawberries, vines, and strawberry flower and bud! Next is pansies! Purples and yellows will be nice to work with after all that green and cream.

The lattice work on the strawberries was harder to keep even than I thought it would be, even though I tried very hard to space all the stitches in gold the right distance apart they still are a little wobbly looking! Oh well, it's my first time so I didn't think it would be perfect.

Yes I am still working on leaves. I have been kinda busy these last few days and haven't really gotten much stitching done. I want to have it done before the 1st but I am not sure that will happen since most of the work coming up is not stitches I have done before. And as you can see there is still a lot of drawn areas left to fill in! And I won't even talk about the finishing! LOL

This is the progress so far in the last 5 days I really didn't get much done on this but I did manage to paint my sewing table and organize the new shelves I put up in there too. I love the look of mason jars and shabby chic which is good because that's all the budget really allows for these days!

I did receive an awesome assortment of trims, buttons, and batik fabric from Marie a couple days ago which is so awesome! I have so many new ideas floating around in my head for cool and interesting quilts, embroidery projects, and even one with both!

So without further delay here is the progress on my current project!

Learning Something New

In the light of day after Fairy Idyll I just was not in the mood to stitch another huge cross stitch piece. So I decided to try my hand at something new. Embroidery is something that if done right it is the most beautiful of all embroidery - Of course in my opinion! LOL

I have had this one Inspiration Magazine laying around my house for years and all because of this one project in it that keeps calling me. So I thought before I start my Mette project with my friend Marie I wanted to try this out! For those of you who don't know what Mette is I will post a pic of the design when we start so you can see that it is enormous!

The Project I have just started is from issue 51 and is on the cover - The Elizabethan Sweet Bag, I won't be making it into a bag but another part to the Fairy Idyll project! Or if it turns out better than I hope for than it will be turned into a needle book for that friend I mentioned up there!

I will be posting a daily picture of progress on this one and PLEASE leave your feedback (good and bad) as to things I could do to improve my embroidery!

I am using all HDF silks and a little petite treasure braid for accent, and stitching on a tone on tone quilters cotton with a layer of muslin behind it. The blue pen marks are on wash away stabilizer and is one of the hints in the book!

LOL SO I got bored..... I was in one of those moods where the project your working on has run its course and now all you want to do it throw it away or hide it! Well, I was watching a show, on quilting, and on this show was this really cool idea.

Now, this really cool idea would entail me having to cut apart a current project and sew it into a quilted book. Never mind that I had been stitching on this project for months and was to the point where a few more hours of beads and backstitch and it would be complete! I had just had it with this project, I didn't really like the way it was shaping up and was curious if this new idea would work.

It's not quite done yet, I still have binding and button holes to make (which will make sense later!LOL) But here is the process of making what I have done so far!

My Quilters Mojo Doll Update

The story behind this design is not all that interesting but I though you might like to know. I was uploading my Cross stitch program to my "new" computer and decided to play around with it a little and see what happened. Well before long I had the top to this design done and started on the bottom. After completing the stitching part of the design I found the publishing button!!! How exciting - it almost looks professional! I am still learning the ins and outs of the program but have found it really easy and fun to use.

What a Face!

Ok so this afternoon I asked my son to take out the garbage, Well he came running back in talking about a baby bunny he saw and wanted to take a picture of it. So off he went with all of his brothers behind him to go see this baby bunny. One of my sons came back in and said that his older brother was petting this baby bunny, so I had to go see if it was dead! (they are boys!) well it wasn't dead and I don't think it is sick however it must be kinda dumb because he had climbed up one flight of stairs and was sitting there letting my four boys crowd around him, petting him and everything.

Well, I can't just leave this little guy out in the hallway and I don't think he would make it down the stairs. Afraid that he would become cat food I brought him in the house. After the thumbs up from the hubby we are keeping this little guy and named him skittles (yes after the candy) so here are some pics of this tiny little bunny, BTW the second picture is the bunny and my son Daltons pet hamster who is a Dwarf Russian Hamster just so you can tell how truly tiny this guy is!

Minor setback!!

I few days ago my little computer crashed, on this little computer was not only all of my favorite sites but also the freebie pattern I had designed not to mention a crap load of photos! Well I managed to get the computer restored to the factory settings but that doesn't help in the other departments.

I had already started the freebie and part of it stitched so I used that little part as a starting point and I believe I have restored the pattern and I am almost through stitching the red on the front. YEAH! So there will still be a freebie and give away in the next week or so!

Quilters Mojo Doll

In the New Issue of Quilters Home Magazine they issued a challenge to create your own Mojo doll. Well here is what happened and how mine came to life....

I started going through my quilting fabrics and was unable to find just one that would be perfect, I came across plenty that I thought were good but nothing truly grabbed me. Then I saw down under the quilting fabric this piece that my Mom had sent to me. It was see through but strong, basically it is shear curtain fabric. Then it dawned on me that I could use any fabric in my doll that I wanted too since it would show through the shear fabric! So I began by cutting a 1/2" strip off of EVERY quilting fabric that I own. 120. So she is stuffed completely with my quilting fabrics!

After completing the basic doll I saw that she looked like a crazy quilt! So I began with the ribbon embroidery and then the beading.... She needed a face and so I used paper clay and a push mold and she had a face. After a little painting and decoupage she was finished.

Materials used: Shear Fabric
   Quilting Cotton
   HDF Ribbon for the embroidery
   Swarovsky crystals, czech beads and a few size 8/0 glass beads.
   Paper clay
   Paint and Hodge Podge.

Update for Fairy Idyll- AKA The Neverending Chart!

So I thought I was getting somewhere on this pattern but then I opened up my folded chart and realized I still have a TON of stitching to do! LOL I really feel like this thing will never end.

On a side note some of you may notice the way the fabric looks faded on areas around the design. Well I hand dyed this myself and I think the sun is playing with my fabric. Yes it is faded. Is this a problem? NOPE. After it is all stitched if I feel it is going to show too much I will just have to get creative. Most stitchers would have been upset over such an obvious blemish but I am just thankful that the salsa my kids spilled a few days ago missed my stretcher!!!! Yep sun spots and stripes I can handle but red splotches are forever! LOL

After looking at this layin around for a few weeks I figured I better make it into something. Everyone Had really good ideas in what to turn it into but since the colors match my kitchen I figured a magnet would be the best use.

I used Heritage Plaid in matching colors and just stitched the front to the back through a piece of "tattered" ruffle I made by ripping off a piece of the fabric first. Used the left over "tattered" ruffle to tie a bow for the bottom. After the glue is dry on the magnet on the back I will put it up permanently!

The Picture is a little faded looking due to the over cast day we are having but I was in such a hurry to show you guys that I figured you would understand!LOL

Just to let everyone know we are all finished moving and all of the boxes are unpacked. Things are falling into their permanent locations and it's starting to feel like home.

As I was unpacking my boxes of stash I came across some things I had forgot all about! It was a nice surprise to find a few fat quarters and some stitching fibers that had been packed up and in storage all these past months.

The best surprise was two WIP's that had been put into project bags and forgotten. One is my dads Old World Map, and the other was Villa Mirabilia. They have been on my In Progress page but I couldn't find the project bags and was starting to get nervous!

Well, I am back to working on Fairy Idyll, Since Nora keeps coming out with the designs faster than I can stitch one I have decided to try and finish this one by the end of May. That's the goal! LOL

Cricket Collections Freebie 2010 Carrot

I finished this a couple days ago and Forgot to post a picture of it till now. This was really fun to stitch, I worked it in DMC floss over one on 25ct Cream Evenweave. Using two strands of floss. I really waned the design to stand out since I was stitching it over one. Also I used a Sheep button and one Rose from Just Another Button Company. The design called for quite a few more buttons and a bunny but you work with what you have right? Well what MOM had! LOL I don't really use buttons like these often and she had these laying around so was nice enough to send them to me! I think they work well.

What should I turn this into? Plant Poke? Ornament? Fridge Magnet? Needle Book?.........Any Suggestions?

I had this stitched up this morning and just finished it into a plant ornament. I used Vicki Silks and Swarovski crystal flowers and one butterfly. I also used size 6/0 beads around the outside and hung a tassel of crystals and even a crystal heart from the bottom. Maybe it will bring good luck to my Orchid who has seen better days.

Oh and the plant hook was just made out of a wire coat hanger, the kind with the vinyl covering.

Last night here in castle rock was awful, We had a ton of snow. In fact so much in such a few hours that I had to go up hill 15 mph to retrieve my husband who of course got stuck in his two wheel drive truck. So when we were safely back home (after 3 hours of driving the 25 miles there and back) I took some pictures.

Moving Day Approaches

As our moving day approaches I will be posting quite a bit less. We are moving into a much larger space for us and I am looking forward to being able to store my cross stitch and other supplies in a more proper manner.

We tend to take for granted the space we have while we have it, I personally didn't realize how much stash I truly had until I needed to condense it down to fit into one stitching cabinet. Not that I have this HUGE amount of stash but when you take into consideration how many things go into use while cross stitching or quilting, or even knitting you begin to wonder how much money went into that stash as well.

I have alot of my stash from collecting over the years but many of you know that two + years ago my storage unit was broken into and most of stash was stolen. While rebuilding my stash has been a long and fun road I am glad to say I am almost back to were I was back then.

With the help of my mom and a few other very generous ladies I now have a few projects in the wings and quite a few of my patterns back and waiting their turn on the stretchers.

I just wanted to thank everyone who have helped me and so you all will see a few secret projects here and there for those person who I want to thank in a special stitched way.

Kansas is our Papillion/Eskimo mix shown here relaxing to the fullest on my bed while I stitch. It is so overcast here today you would think it was almost nighttime and it's only 2:00PM. I just had to show how cute she was with her little tongue hangin out!

Umbrella Sky Weekend

Here is the progress from this weekend on Umbrella Sky. The next section to do has alot larger sections and should go faster than these with all the "confetti" stitching. Now it's back to Fairy Idyll in hopes of reaching the patterns half way mark this week. I'm looking forward to having the bottom half of Fairy Idyll done since that is were most of the stitching is!

Big Ideas

Me and My big ideas! They get me into more trouble!!!! LOL So here's the background on this new idea I have. I worked for a local chain store who decided to change the work hours to hour I can't work so I am now out of a job. BUT that's ok since the hubby works and so rent is taken care of, but my stash money is now gone. SO big idea.....I wanted to get into designing and thought why not, I have a little stash that I can play with and plenty of threads so off we go to start designing.

I will be offering all my patterns through my etsy store which I will ink here later after I get something designed. I have a project in the makings now that I think is pretty good. The major thing to work out is the finishing instructions. I know what I am saying but all of you might just say "HUH?". So just to let everyone know I will be working on a couple "secret" projects over the next few months and will keep you up to date on when patterns are released and where to go to buy them.

Ok Ok Fairy Idyll has bunny feet. But progress is progress and I am happy to be almost done with the bunny. It's kinda hard to see the detail in the photo but there is a lot going on in this small section of the chart.

After almost four hours of beads she is finally done and can leave the stretcher. I can't say I am a big fan of Crescent colors and this linen together but The kit did come with enough fiber to finish the design. She turned out alot better then the photo shows on the kit. She has quite a bit of glitter to her which is hard to capture with the camera but I did my best since it is night here and no natural light to be found!
